Season Finale: De Smet and MICDS Bring Home State Titles

That's a wrap. Championship day is in the books, and the STL area brought home two more state titles. Combined with Principia's Class 3 championship earlier in the week, that's three STL state champions this season. Let's get into it.

STATE CHAMPIONS: De Smet Jesuit 78, Blue Springs South 61 (Class 6)

De Smet Jesuit (27-5) is your Class 6 state champion. They beat Rockhurst by 12 in the semis and then took care of Blue Springs South by 17 in the final. De Smet's postseason run was dominant — they beat Francis Howell Central by 23, Rockhurst by 12, and Blue Springs South by 17. Nobody was close. Congratulations to De Smet on bringing home the title.

STATE CHAMPIONS: MICDS 55, Sikeston 38 (Class 5)

MICDS (27-4) is your Class 5 state champion. Sikeston came in at 29-2 and MICDS held them to 38 points. Thirty-eight. MICDS beat Holt by 12, Hillcrest by 27, and now Sikeston by 17. Three straight double-digit wins to close the season. That's how you finish. Congratulations to MICDS.

Best Close Game: Benton 84, Vashon 81 (Class 4)

Vashon (24-5) and Benton (31-2) went at it. An 84-81 final — the highest-scoring game of championship day. Vashon was right there but couldn't quite close it out. Tough way to end the season, but Vashon had a great year. Beating Orchard Farm by 15 in the semis to get here was no small thing.

Clayton Falls to Logan-Rogersville (Class 4)

Clayton (24-8) ran into a wall. Logan-Rogersville (29-3) won 72-36 — a 36-point blowout. Clayton had an incredible postseason run, knocking off Benton by two in the semis, but Logan-Rogersville was on another level. Still, Clayton beating a 30-1 Benton team to get here was one of the best moments of the postseason.

Cardinal Ritter's Run Ends (Class 6)

Cardinal Ritter (22-11) fell to Rockhurst 68-55. Ritter's postseason run was one of the best stories of the year — they knocked off SLUH, Lindbergh, and Marquette to get to the final four. Eleven losses on the season and they were still playing on the last day. That's heart.

Congratulations to the Champs

Three STL state champions this season:

  • Principia — Class 3 State Champions (29-2)
  • MICDS — Class 5 State Champions (27-4)
  • De Smet Jesuit — Class 6 State Champions (27-5)

What a year for STL basketball. Principia put up 106 in a district final and held a 30-win team to 33 in the semis. MICDS held every opponent in the state tournament to under 50. De Smet beat the top seed in Class 6 by 17 in the championship game. Three titles, three different classes, three dominant runs.

Looking Ahead

That's a wrap on the 2025-26 season. What a ride. From the first week of the regular season all the way through championship day, STL basketball showed up. Three state titles, a handful of incredible postseason runs, and games that came down to the wire.

We're already looking forward to next year. See you in the fall.
