State Championship Day: Clayton Edges Benton, De Smet Takes Down Rockhurst, MICDS Dominates

State championship day is in the books. Six games, and the STL area showed out. Here's how it went down.
Clayton 54, Benton 52
Clayton (23-7) knocked off Benton (30-1) by two. Benton had one loss all season. They put up 81 in the quarterfinals and 65 in the semis. Clayton held them to 52 and made it stick. Clayton's postseason run has been something — they beat St. James, Dexter, and now Benton to reach the state championship game.
De Smet Jesuit 64, Rockhurst 52
De Smet (25-5) took down Rockhurst (27-1) by 12. Rockhurst had been holding teams to under 30 points in the postseason. De Smet put up 64 and it wasn't really close. De Smet is headed to the Class 6 state championship.
MICDS 62, Hillcrest 35
MICDS (25-4) absolutely dismantled Hillcrest (21-9) by 27. This was over early. MICDS beat Holt by 12 in the semis and now Hillcrest by 27. MICDS advances to the Class 5 state championship.
Blue Springs South 54, Cardinal Ritter 51
Cardinal Ritter's incredible run ends. Ritter (22-9) knocked off SLUH, Lindbergh, and Marquette to get here. Blue Springs South (23-7) ended it with a three-point win. Ritter was right there. What a run.
Logan-Rogersville 74, Vashon 60
Vashon (24-3) ran into a buzzsaw. Logan-Rogersville (27-3) won by 14 and it felt like more. Vashon beat Orchard Farm by 15 in the semis, but Logan-Rogersville was a different level. Tough end for Vashon.
Sikeston 56, Raytown South 47
Sikeston (28-2) handles Raytown South (18-11) by 9. Sikeston keeps rolling toward the Class 5 title.
Tomorrow's Games
Championship day. Four STL teams still alive:
- Clayton vs Logan-Rogersville (Class 4) — Clayton just beat Benton by two. Logan-Rogersville just beat Vashon by 14. Something has to give.
- MICDS vs Sikeston (Class 5) — MICDS has been dominant. Sikeston has two losses all year. Heavyweight fight.
- De Smet Jesuit vs Blue Springs South (Class 6) — De Smet just took down Rockhurst. Blue Springs South just ended Ritter's run. Winner takes home the title.
