State Quarterfinals: Vashon, Orchard Farm, and Clayton Advance

Class 4 state quarterfinals. Eight teams came in, four move on. Here's how it went down.

Game of the Night: Clayton 75, St. James 61

Clayton came in averaging 80+ in the district tournament. St. James held St. Clair to 22 points in the district final. Something had to give — and Clayton's offense won out. The Greyhounds put up 75 and punched their ticket to the Elite Eight.

All-STL Showdown: Vashon 64, Lift for Life 49

Vashon has been the area's top Class 4 team all year, and they showed why. Lift for Life pulled the upset over St. Mary's in the district final, but Vashon was a different animal. A 15-point win sends Vashon to the state semifinals.

Dominant Performances

Benton 81, Smithville 45 — Benton won by 36. They looked every bit the part of a state title favorite. Smithville had no answer.

Orchard Farm 69, Hallsville 48 — Orchard Farm rolled by 21. Hallsville came in hot after surviving Mexico by four in the district final, but Orchard Farm was too much. The Eagles are heading to the Elite Eight.

Logan-Rogersville 72, Southern Boone 39 — A 33-point blowout. Logan-Rogersville is rolling.

Biggest Upset

Dexter 74, Potosi 39 — Potosi was the higher seed and had home court. Dexter didn't care. They won by 35. That's not a typo. Dexter absolutely dismantled Potosi and advances to face Clayton in the semifinals.

Close Games

Nevada 53, Forsyth 46 — Nevada survives a seven-point game against Forsyth. Both teams came in with strong records, and it showed.

St. Michael the Archangel 61, Oak Grove 48 — St. Michael continues their Cinderella run. They upset Harrisonville in the district final and now take down Oak Grove on the road. Thirteen points, but St. Michael had to earn every one of them.

State Tournament Preview: STL Teams Still Dancing

Class 4 Semifinals (3/14)

  • Vashon vs Orchard Farm — All-STL semifinal. Vashon has been the area's best Class 4 team all year. Orchard Farm just won by 21. This is going to be a battle.
  • Clayton vs Dexter — Clayton's offense vs Dexter's momentum. Dexter just won by 35. Clayton has been putting up points all postseason. Winner goes to the state championship.

Class 3 Quarterfinals (3/13)

  • Principia vs Liberty (Mountain View) — Principia dropped 106 in the district final. This is a clash of titans.
  • Miller Career Academy vs North Platte — Miller Career pulled the upset over Woodland. Can they keep the run going?

Class 5 Quarterfinals (3/14)

  • Vianney vs Sikeston — Vianney won by 20 in the district final. Heavyweight fight.
  • MICDS vs Holt — All-STL. MICDS should be favored, but Holt has been a tough out.

Class 6 Quarterfinals (3/14)

  • Francis Howell Central vs De Smet Jesuit — The game of the round. Two of the best teams in the area. One goes home.
  • Marquette vs Cardinal Ritter — Coin flip game.

Class 3 is up Friday. Class 4, 5, and 6 go Saturday. The road to Springfield continues.
